Human Trafficking is a big problem.
“Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery—a multi-billion dollar criminal industry that denies freedom to 24.9 million people around the world.¨ ~Polaris Website
If you think Human Trafficking isn’t a problem in America, you’re wrong. Human Trafficking is a big problem everywhere. Right now, as you’re reading this, someone is being trafficked. Every 30 seconds, someone is traffiked.
If you thought you knew what Human Trafficking was, because you watched the movie Taken, the movie Taken was made for entertainment purposes. It has some truths, but it´s mostly wrong.
Grooming is when you prepare or train someone for a particular purpose or task. When people think about human trafficking, they think that people are solely kidnapped, that if you were trafficked you have to have been kidnapped. But some people aren’t kidnapped. Many of the survivors were not kidnapped. They were groomed.
Human trafficking is talked about in a victimizing way. They are not victims. Catalleya Storm remembers the first time she was sold and she was sitting in the back seat of the car watching the Cincinnati skyline go by through the window. That was the night that she realized her life was no longer her own, but life continued. She went off to college and was abused and sold even more because she was no longer around her family. There weren’t people who noticed. It wasn’t until she had law enforcement and some friends who knew exactly what human trafficking was that people were doing something about it, but she didn’t know then that what she was getting was her freedom. Once she found out that was what she was getting, she has wanted to do something about Human Trafficking.
I can’t abolish Human Trafficking, Organizations of Philadelphia cant abolish Human Trafficking, the organizations in the world can’t abolish Human Trafficking until everybody starts talking about Human Trafficking. We need to do something, but EVERYONE needs to help. Traffickers build on silence. So start talking about it. Help the cause.
