Club Feature: Woodworking

Grayson has, from the very beginning, had a powerful focus on the shop. Last year, we had a Maker Space, but with the caveat of having to pack it up every week, given that it was a shared space. Now that we’ve moved into a new space, we have a two fully stocked rooms that can serve as a place for woodworking, textile production, and hardware development, so it makes perfect sense to have a focused group.

This specific club is for the 4-5 cohort, with some students new and old. Students seemed very enthusiastic about woodworking, with a variety of goals – from building a functional Foosball table for indoor recess to simply getting better at working with wood. When looking back on why they joined the club, students cited simply liking working with wood, (as mentioned before) wanting to get “better at woodworking”, and being able to use the tools involved.

Woodworking is very difficult, and the club members are taking it on in stride. There was a good deal of hard work and enthusiasm, and it was very exiting. The Globe approves, and congratulates the Woodworking Club for being cool, unlike certain clubs who follow draconian creatures and underground cellars.
